This year, the Torito de Petate will be on display at the Encompass Event Center. The piece was crafted by artist Alejandro Chihuaque Arias, who dedicated 4 hours a day for 4 months to bring this impressive creation to life, proudly sharing his culture and traditions with our community.
The Baile del Torito de Petate is a tradition rooted in Tarímbaro, Michoacán, and other regions of Mexico. These figures, made from cardboard, reed, and paper, are animated by dancers as if they were puppets, creating a colorful and symbolic spectacle. With origins tied to African heritage and popular legends, the torito represents life, death, and abundance, becoming a cultural expression that unites the community and honors our roots.
